Double Opt in List Builder

What Is a Double Opt in List Builder and Why It's Important?

A double opt in list builder allows you build a nice downline without creating the Tsunami of email you get when using safelists.

Upline & Downline

Before I explain what a list builder is, let me explain the terms "Upline" and "Downline". In network marketing or MLM (multi-level marketing) your upline is the person who recruited, referred or sponsored you into the program. They are kind of a like a "boss" in that they can earn commissions from the work you do. Now your downline are the people who you sponsor, referrer or recruit into the program.

If your upline sponsor has brought in 10 other people (including you) and all of you guys bring in 10 more people and in turn those 10 bring in 10 more, you can see how quickly your downline can grow. Of course the really cool thing is that you can earn commissions from all those hardworking people in your downline!

What is a list builder?

Moving on, a list builder is usually a website or application service that lets you send out hundreds of emails to your downline or to other like-minded people (usually people interested in making money online or in Internet marketing of some kind).

But you can see just how difficult it would be to communicate with all those people. And how sending and receiving all those emails could quickly get out of hand. So a good list builder lets you send downline but you only receive messages from your upline! In a 10 layer system that means while your downline can be in the thousands, you will only get 10 or so messages per day from the folks in the level above you.

What is double opt in?

When someone signs up to join your downline, they have to supply their name and email address at the initial registration form. A double opt in list builder automatically sends out an email to that address. Now that person has to click on a confirmation link and must agree to join for the second time before they can be placed on the list. This is what is meant by "double opt in".

Why is a double opt in list builder so important?

First a double opt in list makes certain that the subscriber really wants to join the list and start receiving email messages. This protects people who are "freebie hunting" and don't really want to be on your list and when some prankster uses someone else's email as a joke.

It also protects you, the list builder since you don't have to be bothered with sending emails out to people who are not truly interested in your products or services. Or to prevent some crank who tries to signup his entire high school graduation class as an act of revenge flood your list with worthless prospects.

So a good double opt in list builder not only helps you grow a strong and responsive email list but it also protects both your and your subscribers from spammers and pranksters.

Importance of an Autoresponder and Opt-In Page

E-mails are a best way to communicate with your visitors and customers. If you have a prospering Internet business, you may receive many e-mails from your customers regarding queries, feedbacks, and upcoming offers.

Replying to all those e-mails becomes a tiring job and consumes many hours. Even if you reply to all those e-mails, later you may suffer from sore fingers due to constant typing. The answer to all these problems is an autoresponder. Using an autoresponder, you can automate your business and save time.

For your Internet business to prosper, you need to have an efficient opt-in page too. It requires a lot of discipline and patience to drive the target customers to your web page. You need to have an impressive opt-in page, so that your visitors on your opt-in page turn into your prospective customers. Your opt-in page needs to be as simple and easy to understand the details of your business.

Benefits of Autoresponder:

You may need it for several reasons. You can use an autoresponder to send e-mails to your customers about your products, services, price lists and to reply the customers, who send in the same questions repeatedly. With the help of an autoresponder, you may present your visitors with special offers. It helps to advertise your Internet business and to build a steady relation with your customers.

Autoresponder also sends many follow up messages to customers. You can adjust the time interval to send these messages to your customers regularly. For instance, you can set a particular time interval for sending new messages on a daily basis. It also allows you to add your signature to all e-mails. Signature on e-mails helps the customer to remember your business identity.

Benefits of Opt-in Page:

An efficient Opt-in page provides the following benefits to your Internet business:

1.An opt-in page firstly needs to have a persuasive or noticeable headline. This headline is the first sentence that a customer sees on an opt-in page. This helps in attracting the visitor to read the further information on the opt-in page.

2.Opt-in page provides all the information and benefits that the visitor receives from your Internet business. Mention your key specialization areas in bulleted or bolded form in your opt-in page for a clear view to visitors.

3.It provides the visitor stepwise guidance for what they have to do next. For instance, an opt-in page guides a visitor where they need to put in their name and e-mail address for further information.

4.Opt-in pages provide the subscription forms for visitors, who are interested in your business.

5.Opt-in page helps in maintaining privacy. It ensures that all the personal information of the visitor are kept confidential and it will not be leaked to any other person.

6.Opt-in pages provide with special bonus features, if visitors are interested in your business. People love to receive gifts and it helps in attracting more visitors.

Thus, autoresponder and the opt-in page are powerful and effective tools for your Internet business. It allows you to contact and to present all the information about your business to potential customers.

How to Build a Profitable Opt-In List

By Christina Lang

One of the most important aspects of having an online business is a good opt-in list. You've probably heard many success stories where people are making a fortune with opt-in lists and you've decided to have one of your own. From what you've read, you think you know everything there is to know and have tried many techniques, but you're still not able to make a profit.

In fact, you could be losing money by the minute, especially if you've hired writers to help you. You might also have a large list, but only a small percentage might actually buy from you. This will become apparent after a few months when you see your statistics and sales figures.

So what went wrong? Why have others succeeded where you've failed? The most common mistake diving into marketing without learning about the marketplace first. Chances are, you chose a topic you thought would be quite popular, but that wasn't the case. Simply sending email messages to people on your list doesn’t mean they're going to buy from you - at least not right away.

If you've started an opt-in list and have failed, you can rejuvenate your campaign. If you're just getting started, here are a few quick tips.

1) It's crucial to make sure your customers trust you (and your products) before you try to sell anything to them. Simply launching a campaign to your opt-in list doesn't make you an overnight expert or a trusted resource. Before you create an opt-in list, start off by submitting some articles to article directories. Write about topics realted to your online business or that you have some knowledge about.

Join forums and provide expert advice and recommendations. As people begin to trust you, this will help you create your opt-in list. Additionally, you can build a base with other forum users by asking them to join your list. Post a link to your site so they can see what your business is all about.

The truth is, the money will come when your subscribers believe and trust you. People won't buy from your recommendation alone if they don’t know you.

2) Find a product or service that people want and need. Whie it may not be your forte, if you provide a service and product that you have researched and learned about well, you can carry it forward.

While it's generally accepted that it's best to sell something you have an interest in, it would be a waste of time to sell something that only attracts a tiny audience. Do your research well and you're more likely to succeed. Also, give your subscribers promotional material that they can use (and might even give to their friends and/or associates).

3) Make friends with other opt-in list users. This is beneficial especially if this person has a successful opt-in list. You can benefit enormously from their experience. While there are many articles available (on the Internet) to use, there's nothing like getting a firsthand account from someone you trust. Experienced opt-in list users will be able to tell you what to do and what not to do.

Building a profitable opt-in list won't happen overnight. There are many steps to take. As your opt-in list grows, make sure to provide your users with quality content. Keep it organized and manageable. Get or hire help if need be, but above all, make sure your subscribers are happy and satisfied and they will be willing to buy from you in the long-term

Building an Opt-In E-Mail List

By Jeanne
If you're lucky enough to have a robust house list that grows significantly each month, good for you. If you're looking to build a list from scratch or would like better list growth, here are a few tips gleaned from recent client work.

Start by developing an acquisition marketing plan, basically, a blueprint for how you'll find, approach, and sell your target audience on giving you their email addresses. As with any marketing plan, you want the quantitative, such as the number of new email addresses to add each month, as well as the qualitative, including where you'll find these people.

This is especially important if you're building a list from scratch. Start the acquisition process before you publish your first email; there's no sense creating an email newsletter (or other type of email communication) if there's no one to send it to. If you're already publishing, don't be deterred. Put a formal plan in place and work to implement it. Building a list is an ongoing project.

The more the person writing the plan knows about your target audience, the better the plan will be. First, decide whom you want to reach. Include an overview of all existing touch points (online and off-) with customers and prospects. Also determine how much you can afford to spend to get an email address.

Next, what type of content will your email provide? If you're doing email marketing, obviously there'll be some type of promotion involved. To engage recipients, you content that offers readers value. With a content plan, you can further identify recipient benefits and hone where to reach interested readers.

Third, look at what competitors are doing online, specifically, how they gather email addresses. This may directly lead to some acquisition resources. Better, it allows you to see what types of tactics work for others.

Finally, identify specific tactics to build an opt-in list. Included may be:

  • Leverage existing touch points to get the opt-in for email.
  • Identify specific Web sites, email newsletters, search engines, and other online spaces where a banner, co-registration, or other mechanism will help reach the target market.
  • Brainstorm offline ways to grow the opt-in email list. One topic that always arises when I talk email acquisition is appending. Appending is the process of taking your existing customer list and "matching" email addresses to it from a larger database. There are two flavors of permission-based append:
  • Negative option opt-out. This is the more common approach. The vendor handling the match sends an email to the matched email addresses, asking recipients to respond if they don't want to receive email from your organization. Good news: opt-outs are usually very low. Bad news: these email addresses are often non-responsive. So you get the email addresses (great if you're compensated on growth) but not necessarily the response (bad if you're compensated on results).
  • Explicit opt-in. Either the match vendor or your organization sends one or more email messages asking recipients to respond if they want to receive email from you. This is true opt-in. Good news: these email addresses have shown to respond on par with other opt-in names. Bad news: I usually estimate a 25 percent response rate, max. You'll have a smaller list, but a more engaged readership will read and respond to your email. If you must append, get an explicit opt-in. A negative option opt-out may be enticing, but if you want results, this isn't the shortcut it may seem.

When initiating plan, start with the quantitative: how many email addresses you want to acquire each month. Then, look at the qualitative piece. It's like searching for a needle in a haystack, figuring out what types of venues your target audience hangs out in and how much it would cost to get a presence there to invite them to opt in to your email. Give it a try and let me know how it works!

Best,

Jeanne
